Materia e tecnica: grès con ossidi, colori, oro / stoneware clay with oxide stains and other colorants plus gold luster glaze

Tecnica: This sculpture is made of fired stoneware clay. It was constructed from slabs and broken bits of clay joined and paddled into shape. It was built hollow as one single form. The texture of the surface was enhanced by the application of stains imbedded in the recessed areas and the color applied to the raised surfaces. This sculpture was glazed and fired to 2,180 degrees F. The top was separated and the gold band was added in additional firings.

Xenolith is a geologic term that refers to a foreign rock material embedded in a crack or gap of an igneous rock. This is a metaphor for something valuable found in something common. The stele-like form and the textured surface suggest a sense of timelessness.
